Destroyed temples were rebuilt during Portuguese rule: Sudin

The CM’s remarks are political and aimed to polarise, says MGP leader

Panjim: MGP leader Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar has said all so called destroyed temples were rebuilt by the Portuguese themselves during their rule.

Speaking on Herald TV’s programme ‘Goa Wants to know’, he reacted to the statement made by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant that his party would rebuild temples allegedly destroyed by Portuguese and people should support BJP on this issue.

Sudin elaborated how the Gods and Goddesses were shifted and the temples rebuilt. He said, “The temples were rebuilt, but only thing from Cortalim, (Lord) Manguesh was shifted to Mangueshi, in Priol Constituency.  (Goddess) Mhalsa who was in Quelshi, Verna, was shifted to Mardol. Our (Goddess) Mahalaxmi was in Colva, which was shifted and rebuilt 400 years back in my place (Bandora), where I stay. (Lord) Nagesh is from Curca, He was shifted to Nagueshi in Bandora.

Sudin remarked that the chief minister’s statement on rebuilding temples was inexplicable. “I don’t know what type of statements CM is making. I do not understand what is in his mind and whether he is trying to make communal statement,” Sudin stated.

Sudin said people of all communities live harmoniously in Goa. “During Ganesh Festival all communities visit me. Catholics and Muslims visit me. I also visit them. 25th December is Christmas, we will go to each and every house and we will celebrate with friends, so where is the  question?, he asked.

“Such type of statement is political. People should not take it seriously” Sudin said.
