PANJIM: Environment
Minister Nilesh Cabral continued to seek for time to “examine facts and take
everything into consideration” regarding the construction of a wall at
Vainguinim Beach but said “if the work is found to be illegal it will be
removed 100 per cent”.
Cabral said the same
would be the case with the wall constructed at Morjim Beach and said any
illegality on any beaches will be removed after his department determines if
such works are illegal or not.
On Vainguinim, Cabral
criticised Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat for not commenting on the issue
on the grounds that the matter is in court but said the fact that the judiciary
is involved may delay the time it may take for his department to take action,
if required.
“I want to assure the
public that we are doing our homework and we will take it to the logical
conclusion,” Cabral added.
When he said he has
asked his department to give him a report on the matter soon, he said
preliminary findings were that the hotel had approved permissions.
When pointed out that the
permission was not given for the use of concrete, Cabral reiterated that he
would have to study the matter first before commenting and that the action
would be taken if it is illegal.
