Detained Bangladeshis to be deported: Sawant

Says MHA informed about apprehensions over authorised private agencies issuing Aadhar Cards to foreign nationals

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that more than 20 Bangladeshis staying illegally in Goa have been arrested and warned that stern action will be taken against those owners renting out rooms without submitting tenant verification forms to the police. 

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme at the BJP office, here, Sawant said that the police had so far arrested more than 20 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the State and that the search is on to find if more such illegal immigrants are staying. He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi has been informed about these arrests and all the arrested Bangladeshi nationals will be deported.

The Chief Minister said that after passing the Goa Verification of Tenants Bill, it came to the notice that some people/migrants from other States were residing in the State and did not have their addresses from India. He said that some of these people staying without any verification were indulging in various types of crimes and urged house owners not to keep tenants without police verification. 

To a question, the Chief Minister said that action will be initiated against house owners, who provide accommodation on rent to the outsiders and foreign nationals without verification. Reacting to the seizure of Aadhar Card from one of the arrested Bangladeshi national, Sawant said that he has already brought to the notice of the MHA about the apprehensions of authorised private agencies issuing Aadhar Cards to foreign nationals.

CM thanks Modi for lauding Goa 
in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme 
PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mentioning in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme about long human chain formed in Goa and coastal clean-up on the last day of ‘Swachh Sagar – Surakshit Sagar’ programme on September 17.
Addressing the nation in his Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio (AIR), Modi said, “Campaign ‘Swachh Sagar – Surakshit Sagar’ started on July 5 and culminated on September 17, the day of Vishwakarma Jayanti. This day was also coastal clean-up day. This campaign, which started in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, lasted for 75 days”.
Hailing the public participation in this effort, Modi said, “Public participation in this was a sight to behold. During this effort, many cleanliness related programmes were seen for the entire two and a half months. A long human chain was made in Goa. I would like to congratulate all the people who took part in this campaign.”
