Detection rate up by 2 per cent

While there is a decrease in number of heinous crimes committed in 2019 in South Goa district what is heartening to note is that the crime detection rate has increased. In fact crime detection has increased in 2019 by 2.07 percent as in 2019, 87.36 of the cases were detected as against 85.29 per cent detected in 2018.
In all, there were 67 heinous crimes which involve murder, attempt to murder, rape, dacoity and robbery. Heinous crimes were less in 2019 as in 2018 there were 70 such cases reported.
Detection in property offences like dacoity, robbery, burglary, chain snatching and theft has increased by 4.24 per cent as in 2018 detection of such cases was only 59.52 per cent which went up to 63.76 per cent in 2019. Incidentally stolen property recovery has improved as 57 pr cent cases were solved in 2019 as against the 39 per cent solved in 2018.
No of accidents have decreased in 2019 where only 1,741 Motor Vehicles Accidents were registered as against 1,895 such cases registered last year. However the number of people who died in fatal accident last year has increased to 162 as against the 128 who had died in 2018.
South Goa police registered 82 drug cases om 2019 and arrested 88 persons. In 2019 13.725 kgs of drugs were seized which were worth around Rs. 33.56 lakhs.
Police have continued their fight against cigarettes and tobacco use and booked 20,759 persons under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Product Act and 16,913 persons were challaned under the Smoking and Spitting Act. Incidentally 370 establishments were booked under COTPA for not displaying No Smoking boards.
