BICHOLIM: Troubles for Shreya Dhargalkar who was apprehended by Cuncolim police on Sunday seem to have deepened further with devotees of Devi Lairai, Shirgao now demanding her immediate arrest and also externment.
On Monday, devotees marched at the Bicholim police station and met Bicholim PI Rahul Naik, demanding that Shreya and her accomplice should be booked for making comments on the devotees of Devi Lairai and the Dhond community.
The Cuncolim police on Sunday arrested Shreya Dhargalkar for defaming and hurting religious sentiments of mahajans of Shri ShantadurgaKunkalikarin, in her social media post.
Mayem MLA Premendra Shet and Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye also accompanied the devotees of Devi Lairai to the police station.
Namita remanded to police custody; Shreya hospitalised
MARGAO: While Namita Fatarpekar has been remanded to four days police custody by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, Shreya Dhargalkar has been admitted to South Goa District Hospital on Monday.
It may be recalled that tension prevailed in Cuncolim after the Mahajans of Shri Shantadurga Kunkalikarin marched to Cuncolim police station demanding Shreya Dhargalkar’s arrest for hurting religious sentiments besides defaming them with false charges
The issue snow balled into a controversy following a video released by Shreya Dhargalkar alleging that Namita Fatarpeker was harassed by a temple committee and the panchayat.
Police stated that Kavendra Dessai of Shree Shantadurga Kunkalikarin Sausthan, Fatorpa, Quepem complained that the accused, with common intention made false and derogatory comments on social media against the committee members thereby hurting religious sentiments of the members and Mahajan’s of Shree Shantadurga Kunkalikarin Sausthan and further complained that Shreya Dhargalkar used vulgar language to outrage the religious feelings of the Hindu community and defame the temple committee members. They further pointed out that these false allegations were aimed at promoting disharmony with an intention to create discrimination causing different religions thereby outraged feelings of the Hindu community.
Police have registered an offence under Sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 298, 500 read with Section 34 of IPC along with Section 66-A of the Information Technology Act.
Namita claimed in the viral video that she has documents to prove that the house and surrounding land belongs to her ancestors, which claim was refuted by the temple committee and asserted that she was living in the said house illegally
The tense situation at Cuncolim where people had even blocked the traffic was defused on Sunday only after Shreya escorted by heavy police force, publicly apologised for the video
Meanwhile Cuncolim PI Diogo Gracias said the situation is peaceful and that no untoward incident has been reported. He said that third accused is absconding and assured that will be arrested shortly.
