Director General of Police Muktesh Chander pointed out that greed has become a major weakness and cyber criminals are exploiting this to dupe people.
“Don’t get greedy on lucrative offers. Criminals are resorting to new methods to dupe vulnerable victims. When such offers are made, one should always see it with a doubt and approach the police for help,” he said addressing an awareness program on cyber crime.
The department higher-ups have instructed sleuths of the cyber crime cell to keep tabs on newspaper advertisements that offer lump sums without any hard work. “I have told my officers to read about the “scheme”. Let the concerned person be summoned and questioned. Through this, we can stop cyber fraud to a certain level. But we need public participation. Greed of money will take you to fraud. Don’t be a cybercrime target,” he said admitting that some police personnel have been victims of the fraud.
Speaking about Goa government’s efforts to go cashless by December 31, 2016, Chief Secretary R K Srivastav said the State is not short of cash.
“It is an important initiative not because we are running out of cash. There is no shortage of cash in Goa. Unlike in other states, we don’t have big queues outside ATMs,” he stated.
