away from initiating strict action against anyone involved in malpractices,” he said at the Goa Police Raising Day function on Tuesday.
He sent out a strong message that the guilty should be punished as he cited the arrests of constables Keshav Naik and Mahendra Mandrekar for allegedly duping a businessman, and suspension of driver constable Vikas Naik in a case of robbery of around Rs 34 lakh. “I will not shield anyone found involved in criminal activities,” he asserted.
The DGP further stated that the State’s law and order situation has improved and hailed the force for its good performance during the BRICS summit. “Despite limited resources, Goa Police have excelled in their duties,” he said.
The police chief, however, urged the force to improve professionalism in discharging duties. “There is still a need to enhance professionalism in the workforce towards cyber crime investigation, basic policing, beach patrolling or monitoring social media,” he said.
Speaking on the department’s readiness to shift to cashless transactions, he said he is confident of doing away with manual issuance of traffic challans and claimed that the Traffic Cell is equipped with the required facilities with the police force trained in this regard.
