Addressing the media, Goa Dhangar Samaj president and Congress MLA Babu Kavlekar said the Association will soon seek an appointment with the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar to discuss the issue threadbare so that the inclusion in the list of Scheduled Tribes takes place at the earliest.
Kavlekar, however, appreciated the stand of the Chief Minister towards the Dhangar community, saying the Community as well as the government has submitted the documents to the Registrar General of India to do the needful. “The Chief Minister has been sympathetic to the long pending demands of the Dhangar community. We have now hope that the demand may be fulfilled anytime with the change in political equations at centre”, Kavlekar said.
Replying to a question, he said the BJP government has extended most of the schemes enjoyed by the Scheduled Tribes Velips, Kunbis and Gawdas also to the Dhangar community. “Except reservation in education and employment, the Dhangar community avail benefits of most of the schemes meant for the scheduled tribes”, Kavlekar added.
