PERNEM: After seeing that instead of giving permanent jobs to local youth at the Manohar International Airport (MIA), they have been given only contractual and menial jobs, the residents of Dhargalim fear the same fate at the AYUSH Hospital.
Lakhs of square metres of land belonging to people of Pernem is acquired by the State government for different developmental projects by promising that people of Pernem will be given first preference for jobs and business opportunities once these projects get completed.
However, time and again, the government has failed to keep up to its promise and one such example is the Manohar International Airport (MIA) at Mopa, where till today, the people of Pernem, especially the youth, are fighting to get their rightful business opportunity of operating taxis and while others are struggling to get proper jobs.
People of Pernem are now in a dilemma whether the same will be repeated at the AYUSH Hospital, located at Dhargalim in Pernem Taluka.
Bharat Bagkar, president of Pernem Citizens Forum, said, “The government is very well aware that no matter how they treat the people of Pernem, they will blindly trust them. Politicians are employing people from their own constituency at these projects and Mopa Airport is the best example, where most of the top posts are given to outsiders. Same will be repeated at the AYUSH Hospital.”
