Dhargalim locals want commercially viable project in place of crumbling, disused WRD quarters

PERNEM: The unused residential quarters of the Water Resources Department at Don Khamb-Dhargalim have turned it into dilapidated, abandoned structures, rendering the project a white elephant. Several lakhs of rupees spent on the project have gone in vain, said locals, who claimed that the same funds could have been utilised for other constructive and essential projects.

Considering the close vicinity to the Manohar Inter-national Airport at Mopa, locals have demanded that the Dhargalim panchayat consider setting up a multi-purpose project at the site that will boost business activities in the vicinity.

The residential quarters are part of the Tillari project. Thousands of square meters of land were acquired for the construction of quarters, and lakhs of rupees were spent on construction. However, only a few

quarters were occupied and the others, left unused. The

neglected quarters need urgent repairs. The unused quarters have now become a den for anti-social elements. It is frequented by drunkards and other rowdy elements during nighttime, complained locals.

The proposed link road connecting the Airport via Dhargal im will make the location of these aban-doned quarters important for logistical and related purposes. The government now has the option to repair the unused quarters or construct a supportive project for Mopa Airport.
