PERNEM: The Dhargalim gram sabha on Sunday passed a resolution demanding that the Pernem constituency reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) communities be dereserved and that Assembly Assembly polls.
Narayan Salgaonkar tabled his resolution urging the gram sabha to unanimously pass it to rotate constituencies. He said that since liberation, one of the constituencies from Pernem taluka has been reserved for SC candidates and due to this candidates belonging to other communities cannot contest from the reserved seat. If the constituencies are rotated, then it will provide social justice, political justice and equality as provided in the Constitution.
During the gram sabha, the villagers pointed that due to reserved seat, candidates belonging to SC communities residing in other constituencies were contesting from Pernem and rotation of seats will give representation to them to contest in every constituency in course of time.
The villagers urged the panchayat to send the copies of the resolution to all the concerned authorities.
The meeting also discussed the issue of garbage menace and appealed to landlords to provide information of tenants to the village panchayat. The villagers also urged the panchayat to ensure that 80 per cent locals are given jobs at Mopa international airport and in the AYUSH Hospital. The gram sabha also demanded early construction of the flyover.
