Dhave locals forced to walk 20 kms to the neighbouring village daily to fetch water

Villagers facing acute water shortage since one month; Accuse WSD officials of failing to act

VALPOI:  Dhave locals from Valpoi constituency are facing acute water shortage in their village for a month now. They claim that the taps and springs in the village have run dry for the past one month and due to this they are forced to walk a distance of 20 kilometres to the neighbouring village daily to fetch water for domestic use.
According to Dhave villagers, they have complained to the Water Supply Department, Valpoi regarding the water shorting in the village. But till date the Water Supply Department officials have failed to initiate any action. The villagers allege that the officials say that they are very busy with the election duties.
“We have informed our panch and Valpoi MLA regarding the water shortage problem but they too are not bothered. Our MLA visits us only during the election time. After elections, the MLA makes trips to different countries for his personal enjoyment,” the Dhave villagers alleged.
“Since last one month, we are facing water shortage problem in our village. Our taps and village springs have run dry. We are getting water bills and also paying the same on time. But when we are facing water shortage problem no one visits our village to see our problems,” complained Bhageshree Bhatekar, a local.
“For the past one month, there is no single drop of water. The taps have run dry. So we demand that the government to solve the problem and provide us with regular water supply at the earliest,” Pramod Gaonkar, a villager demanded.
