PONDA: Complaining that they are facing inconvenience as the national highway traffic is passing through the narrow service road, Dhavlim locals on Thursday demanded with PWD National Highway Division to expedite the pending work on Dhavlim flyover and open it for the public soon.

The locals are unhappy with the slow pace of work going on since past four years and reminded the PWD Minister about his promise to open the flyover by December 15, by completing all the pending works.

It may be recalled that Dhavlim-Kavlem locals had earlier opened the flyover for national highway traffic along with Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar, Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, Bandora Sarpanch Rajesh Naik and Durbhat Agapur Adpoi Sarpanch Saroj Naik last month citing that the national highway traffic is causing inconvenience to them.

However, the day after opening, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar inspected the flyover along with PWD officials and directed to close it for the vehicular movement stating that there were no streetlights installed, needed another coating of hot-mix carpeting and some pending work was not completed.

Kavelm Sarpanch Kavlekar said that the service road is in bad condition and the heavy traffic passes through it is causing inconvenience.

He demanded that the PWD expedite the slowly progressing Dhavlim flyover work and open it for traffic as early as possible. He also demanded proper side wall construction on the culvert located near the service road for the safety of vehicles and bike riders.

As assured by the PWD Minister, the locals also demanded one more layer of hot-mix carpeting on the flyover road and also repair the service roads on both sides of the flyover.

Marcaim MLA Dhavalikar had also earlier blamed the PWD Minister and engineers for closure of Dhavlim flyover. He had alleged that the PWD Minister making politics on the issue.  He said that the road is safe and that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant should inspect the flyover and take decision.

Meanwhile, after locals expressing unhappiness over the delay, the PWD had erected electricity poles on the flyover last 15 days.
