PONDA: Protesting the shortage of two teachers, the students of Government primary school at Dhavshirem, Usgao continued to boycott classes on Monday. Now, their parents have decided to gherao ADEI Office at Ponda on Tuesday afternoon demanding permanent recruitment of teachers in the school and have called upon the authorities to operate school in the morning.
What is pertinent to note is that the students have boycotted classes since Saturday.
The parents said the shortage of teachers is affecting the studies of their children and informed that they will gherao the Assistant District Educational Inspector (ADEI) Office at Ponda on Tuesday at 1 pm seeking clarification over shortage of teachers at the school.
PTA chairman Ulhas Satarkar said, “Parents are fed up with frequent transfer of teachers from this school. The newly appointed teachers use political influence to get their transfers to the nearest area due to which every two months the school faces shortage of at least two to three teachers. A total of five teachers have been sanctioned for 83 students here including one for English. At present a teacher has been transferred while another has been sent for training by department resulting in shortage of two teachers. In July too parents had launched agitation following a similar situation.”
According to parents, mostly female teachers are not ready to teach in primary school operating from 1.15 pm to 6 pm as they complain of reaching home late. The parents have demanded that the school should operate in the morning session.
Ponda ADEI Nisha Raikar assured the parents to provide two teachers. She said a teacher from secondary school has been transferred to the Dhavshirem primary school and the teacher who was supposed to undergo training has been called back as the department has cancelled the training.
Satarkar and parents said they are have not been given concrete assurance on whether the teachers will be on permanent or temporary basis.
