Dhirio supporters meet Caitu, Sardesai

MARGAO: Dhirio supporters from across Goa met Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai with a request to take up the dhirio issue with the State government.

Their demands for resumption of dhirio increased after Central Minister Prakash Javdekar stated that the Centre wanted to allow Jallikattu, a popular bull-taming sport, in Tamil Nadu.
“If Vishnu Wagh moves a bill in this favour, I will definitely support it. Else I will move a bill in the assembly, seek a consensus on resumption of dhirio, and prove on the floor that Goan dhirio involve no cruelty to animals. Elections are nearing, so the elected representatives have to support the things that the people want,” said Sardessai.
A dhirio supported said, “We expect that MLA Vijai Sardessai unites the independents and like-minded constituencies and demands the resumption of dhirio.”
The ‘dhiriyaakaars’ expect the demand to reach to the Center following Javdekar’s statements.
