MAYEM, APRIL 30
The traditional zatra of Goddess Lairai continued on Thursday with traditional fervour with variety of rituals at Lairai Temple, Shirgao, on Wednesday.
The highlight of the day was the large number of Dhonds walking through the embers of the Homkund (pyre), which was lit in the wee hours of Thursday.
The Homkund was lit when the Dhonds went to take a holy bath in Devachi Tali, which is believed to be the beginning of zatra.
Meanwhile, religious rituals like abhishek, aarti, garanhe and tirthprasad were performed throughout the day.
Thousands of Dhonds throughout the State and other states participated in the Homkund. Hindus, Catholics and some foreigners also attended the zatra.
No untoward incident was reported during the festival. However, traffic was disrupted for about two hours at Assonora on Wednesday night, due to the road mishap that claimed two lives. The zatra will continue till May 3.
