PANJIM: The Directorate of Health Services has also begun preparations for vector-borne diseases in monsoon.
The DHS says diseases like Malaria are likely to increase with the increase in temperature and intermittent rain showers, resulting in favourable mosquito breeding conditions, especially in the areas with poor sanitation and unsafe water storage practices.
The National Vector-Borne Diseases Control Programme, has appealed to the public to get rid of unwanted water holding receptacles in and round their houses and to avoid water stagnation. All water storing containers and overhead tanks should be covered with mosquito proof lids and also to make use of mosquito repellents/mosquito nets to avoid mosquito bites. “Any person suffering from acute febrile illness may contact the nearest health centre for diagnosis and treatment of vector-borne diseases. It is suggested to follow medical advice and prevent any self-medication,” DHS added.
