MARGAO: The family of Avinash Gunjikar, who was arrested last week for alleged assault, has demanded that the arrest of the persons involved in the property damage and alleged assault of the Gunjikar family.
Gunjikar’s family members have claimed that he had been framed for no reason and have alleged that it was the men in the mob who assaulted and abused them on the night of May 2. His sister Sheetal Gunjikar stated, “Three men came on a bike that evening and abused the women in our house and my brother was shoved and incited into a fight. Jason Vales was drunk.”
She added, “He (Avinash) is not a criminal and has no criminal record, and the assault on the boy was out of self defence. The fact is, we were assaulted, and arresting Avinash is an injustice to us.”
“Our taxi cab, our bar and restaurant were destroyed. How do we earn a living now?” said Gunjikar’s mother, adding, “Arrest them immediately under the same serious sections that have been falsely placed on my son and we have a right to give a cross complaint”.
“Innocent bystanders were arrested and the persons who are guilty of the assault are scott-free,” added Sheetal.
