“Goans will have the first right on Goan
fish. Goa TMC will sternly implement the ban on bull-trawling and LED fishing,”
TMC Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promised fishermen on
her visit to the Betim fishing jetty on Friday. She also assured that Goa TMC
will increase the subsidy by 2.5 times, from Rs 30,000 to Rs 75,000, given that
the Goa Govt had reduced their subsidy.
Procuring fish at MSP — Maximum Selling
Price, by the government and promising an allowance of Rs 4000 per month for
all men & women engaged in fishing activities were other assurances given
by Mamata to the fishermen. Setting up of a welfare board and subsidies for
purchasing and repair of fishing nets and accessories will also be introduced.
These were among other assurances given to fishermen at Betim, by the only
female chief minister in India.
Mamata took great interest in the plight of
fishermen, asking about reduction of subsidy by Govt of Goa. Didi also inquired
about various types of fish and prices of fish including Red Snapper, White
Snapper, Pomfret and Kingfish. Didi even shared that fish varieties such as the
Red Snapper are also found in West Bengal. A local tea shop owner was delighted
that Didi, Luizinho Faleiro and Goa TMC team stopped over and had tea at his
stall and inquired about him.
