VASCO: DIG Dr O P Mishra and senior police officials visited the house of the schoolgirl, who was sexually assaulted in a Vasco school toilet, to apprise the parents of ongoing police investigations and to address their concerns on various issues pertaining to the security of students in schools.

“As a police officer, it is our moral responsibility to apprise the complainant about the status of the progress of the investigation, said DIG Mishra, while interacting with reporters at the Vasco police station.

Dr Mishra said he along with other police officials had gone to interact with the victim’s family and the neighbours to address their concerns following the shocking incident.

“The parents had some issues concerning the overall security of the school and they are very concerned about the safety of students once the school re-opens on Monday,” added DIG Mishra.

“The parents will submit a representation to the officials, which will cover some points pertaining to security and the representation will be later forwarded to the Goa Police. The Director General of Police will request the officials to adopt security measures highlighted in the representation,” he said.

Dr Mishra added that a lady investigating officer is in regular contact with the victim’s family.

When Herald sought comments into the delay by school officials in filing the complaint, DIG Mishra said the investigation is broad-based and the police would probe into various angles.

“The criminal case which has been registered by the police has a very broad ambit and it will take into account all the lapses, including destruction of evidence,” added Dr Mishra.

Meanwhile, the Murgao Action and Vikas Samiti submitted a memorandum to Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo, condemning the sexual assault on the schoolgirl and demanded various measures to ensure security in schools.
