Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav Saturday evening personally interrogated former minister Mickky Pacheco in the Crime Branch office at Dona Paula. Sources in the Crime Branch told Herald that the senior officer quizzed Pacheco for nearly 45 minutes.
However, neither DIG nor the Crime Branch Inspector Sunita Sawant was available for comments, as they declined to answer repeated phone calls.  Pacheco, who is further remanded to four-day police custody, on Friday, was later taken back to Calangute police lock-up where he is lodged.
It is further learnt that the Calangute MLA Agnel Fernandes in a written application has sought permission of the Government to meet Pacheco in custody. The legislator however refuted that he sought Government’s intervention.
“I wanted to meet Pacheco because I believe until a person is proven guilty, he is innocent. I met the Calangute Inspector (Nolasco Raposo) who asked me to seek permission of the Crime Branch,” he told Herald when contacted on phone, Saturday night.
The Crime Branch sleuths turned down his request. The Congress MLA ridiculed that the alleged drug dealers David Driham aka Dudu and Yaniv Benaim aka Atala while in custody was allowed to contact people but an MLA was refused to meet his own member of the Legislative Assembly.
Furthermore, Pacheco was reportedly approached by one Nationalist Congress Party representatives to discuss Assembly matters but the former declined to meet his man. The monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly is slated to begin on July 19 and Pacheco has been granted permission to attend the session with armed police escorts.
