PANJIM: Director General of Police Jaspal Singh and Director Indian Institute of Technology Goa Prof B K Mishra on Friday exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together to bring innovative solutions to strengthen police force in the State of Goa.
The MoU exchange ceremony which took place at the Indian Institute of Technology, Farmagudi was witnessed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Omvir Singh and Superintendent of Police North Goa Shobit Saxena and Superintendent of Police Crime Nidhin Valsan, Registrar of IIT Goa V Venkat Rao along with others.
SP Crime Nidhin Valsan informed that the MoU was exchanged with the aim to enable and jointly explore the research and development projects and to enable predictive policing to anticipate the future demands.
“The IIT Goa and Goa Police will work together to create large scale awareness among citizens. They will also work on cyber security related initiatives to fight against cybercrime. Both the institutions plan sharing of expertise and technical knowhow as well as to conduct courses for training of police officers and students in subjects related to technology and crime,” added Valsan.
He further said that the participants from both the organisations will have access to resources, as may be required for various activities.
Adding to this, DGP Jaspal Singh said, “There is huge scope for artificial intelligence to solve complex security related problems. The shared understanding between IIT Goa and Goa Police will go a long way to serve citizens of Goa in more efficient and effective manner.”
Speaking in this regard, Prof Mishra said, “This initiative will allow us to use to the Goa Police as well as to the county through student internship, hackathons, etc. Academic institutes have the potential to help in providing scientific insights to investigators on a practical level. Modern digital tools coupled with out-of-the box thinking can extend the realm of possibilities in the area of digital forensic and cybercrime.
