PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday appeared before the Mapusa Special Court in the Louis Berger bribery case.
The court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 has adjourned the matter for October 11 as the former PWD minister Churchill Alemao was not present for the hearing.
“The matter was taken up and Kamat put in an appearance before the Mapusa Special Court as accused number one. The court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and also asked him to furnish surety. The matter has been adjourned till October 11 as accused number two Churchill Alemao was not present as he is out of Goa,” the lawyer said
Crime Branch which is probing the case had arrested then PWD minister Alemao in connection with the case in September 2015, while Kamat was given anticipatory bail by District and Sessions court in North Goa.
Former Chief Minister and six others, including the then PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, were also listed in the chargesheet in the scam in which the US firm has been charged with bribing Indian officials to win two water developmental projects in Goa and Guwahati.
The police had also named McClung, former India Vice-President of the company Satyakam Mohanty, head of (Japan International Cooperation Agency) JICA-aided project in Goa Anand Wachasunder, suspected Hawala dealer Raychand Soni and former Margao Municipal Council chairperson Arthur D’Silva.
