Digging has taken its toll on the city

Even as the Capital city witnessed a rainfall deficit, the inter-city roads remained filled with water, creating a nuisance to commuters. This is all thanks to various government agencies like the Public Works Department (PWD), Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the Power department which left no stone unturned in digging of the roads later left it in a pathetic condition.
While the monsoon was set to approach the State in July (though delayed), the reckless digging of roads and the failure to get them repaired started taking its toll fairly quickly with locals complaining and agitating on the poor road conditions.
A round along the areas of Taleigao, Caranzalem, Dona Paula, Altinho, Bhatlem, 18 June road and so on will give you a clearer picture of the conditions. These roads are bumpy, uneven and are marred with numerous potholes, some capable of causing great harm to commuters. Two-wheeler riders face the biggest challenge to ply on these roads, which are completely neglected by the authorities.
The long delayed Miramar-Dona Paula road is yet another eye-sore. Reckless digging for over a year and a half now has affected locals and commuters. The students of the Sharada Mandir school located on the stretch of road face the biggest issue on a daily basis. Metal rods and crevices in the road can cause injury to students before or after school hours.
