Digging work halted in Panjim after GOACAN’s complaint

PANJIM: The North Goa District Magistrate Levinson Martins has issued stop work order to Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) for various digging works it has undertaken within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP) with immediate effect.
The order comes two days after GOACAN sought the district administration’s intervention into the extensive trenching work, negligently being carried out in different parts of the capital. The forum emphasised on how safety precautions across several digging sites were thrown to the wind which posed risk to pedestrians as well as riders/drivers.
In a notice issued to the IPSCDL, Martins said, “It is reported that you are carrying out digging works of various roads all over the city of Panjim without displaying boards with necessary information, for which it appears that no any permission have been obtained from the competent Authority.”
Collector thus directed to stop digging or excavation of public roads within the City Corporation jurisdiction and asked to seek permission from the North Collectorate for undertaking digging works. Martins also informed the IPSCDL to urgently produce documents if it has obtained prior permission.
