MARGAO: The government on Monday launched digital water meters at the district police headquarters, with PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar saying these meters will help save water by 5-6 per cent.

MARGAO: The government on Monday launched digital water meters at the district police headquarters, with PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar saying these meters will help save water by 5-6 per cent.
The digital water meters were launched at the hands of Chief Minster, Manohar Parrikar, in the presence of Dhavalikar, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai, here, around noon today.
Speaking on the occasion, the PWD Minister said his department is very much concerned about 30 per cent of total water wasted due to leakages, thefts and other reasons. “The new digital metres will help ensure correct billing. It will help save 5-6 per cent of the water,” he said, adding that the department has already initiated steps to plug water leakage. “We have been able to save water leakage by 15 per cent when wastage was brought to our notice at Curtorim. People should use water judiciously and help the department to plug the leakages,” he added.
