PANJIM: A day after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar embarrassed Congress leader Digvijay Singh for failing to form the government in Goa, the latter shot back at Parrikar accusing him of cheating the Goans.
Singh, the Congress in charge for Goa, took to Twitter to respond to the ridiculing remark made by the former Defence Minister in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. “Shame on you Mr Parrikar and your hunger for power. You have cheated the people of Goa. Apologise to them,” he tweeted.
The tweet that received 519 likes and 268 re-tweets till Saturday evening also had comments from people questioning the wisdom of the Congressman for making such a statement.
Singh’s tweet began with accusing Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha for violating the Sakaria Commission as well as Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for ‘aggressive MLA buying’.
“Manohar Parrikar thanks me for letting him form the Govt (government) in Goa. If he thinks he has to thank anyone it is Nitin Gadkari who did aggressive MLA shopping on March 12 early morning from (a) hotel in Goa,” he said. He further tweeted, “And Governor of Goa who violated Constitution, Sakaria Commission guideline & Supreme Court decisions and robbed the mandate of people of Goa.”
The Congress party had earlier accused Gadkari for allegedly bribing regional parties and Independents to join hands with BJP to stake claim. It also slammed the Governor for not inviting Congress to stake claim despite emerging as the largest party in the elections.
On Friday, Parrikar took a dig at Singh for failing to cobble together a majority despite winning 17 seats against BJP’s 13 seats.
