PORVORIM: The State government on Wednesday withdrew the charge of DIG A Koan, IPS for allegedly misbehaving with a tourist woman in a famous pub at Baga, Calangute. He has been asked to report to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi has been informed about the incident.
The action came in the wake of allegations accusing the DIG of misbehaving with a woman tourist in a club at Baga, Calangute on Monday night. The issue of IPS officer misbehaving with a woman was raised in the Assembly by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, who demanded that the IPS officer be suspended and relieved immediately.
Sardesai raised the matter before starting of the Question Hour.
Announcing the government’s decision Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the IPS officer’s charge has been withdrawn and that the Ministry of Home Ministry (MHA), New Delhi has been informed about the decision. Other decisions will be taken by the MHA, he said, adding that the officer has been asked to report to the head office.
Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh, IPS said that he was asked to submit the incident report and submitted it to the government.
Earlier, the Chief Minister has assured Members in Legislative Assembly that the government will initiate strict action against the IPS officer, who was allegedly involved in the Baga, Calangute pub incident.
“We will inquire and take strict action against him. We will not tolerate it,” Sawant said while reacting to a mention made by MLA Sardesai, before commencement of the Question Hour.
The IPS officer posted in the State government service a few months back allegedly misbehaved with a woman at a pub in Calangute on Monday night after entering into an altercation with her friend. The officer in an inebriated state entered into an argument with the woman and her friend.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had also demanded that the IPS officer be immediately suspended and recalled back by the MHA, New Delhi.
