MARGAO: Dilapidated building of South Goa Comunidade at Margao will soon get a new lease of life as the authorities concerned carried out inspections in order to carry out the renovation works.
Engineers of the Public Works Department along with the members of the South Goa Comunidade Forum in the presence of Comunidade Administrator Joao Fernandes held an inspection of the building upon which final estimate will be prepared.
It is pertinent to note that the said building is in dilapidated conditions for the last several years and has resulted in danger to human life. A few days ago, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral had held a meeting on the issue to decide upon the further course of action.
“As decided in the meeting, PWD officials along with members of the comunidade forum inspected the building in order to finalise the estimate of the work,” said Fernandes.
He also said that once the final estimate is prepared, a tendering process will follow and there are hopes that work on the renovation will commence very soon.
Franky Monteiro, president of South Goa Comunidade Forum said that the estimate and tendering process will be done through the PWD and funds for the renovation work will be provided by the forum.
“Administrator will call a next meeting to deliberate on the issue, wherein issues pertaining to funds will be discussed,” he informed.
Earlier, Minister Cabral had said that the government will go ahead with the tendering process.
He had also said that components of comunidade have been asked to decide upon how they can contribute for the restoration of the building. The possession of the building will be handed over to the comunidade forum after renovation of the work is carried by the PWD.
