Diligent cop nabs car thief after hot chase

In a filmy-style hot chase, a plain-clothed policeman nabbed a car thief that at Don Bosco Church, Panjim on Sunday evening.
Head Constable Shriram Salgaonkar, attached to Panjim police station, arrested Riyaj Karigar, an accused in several car-theft cases after chasing him on the busy street near Don Bosco church.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 pm when Riyaj was allegedly found trying to open a car parked outside the church compound during the Sunday evening mass. Eye witnesses stated that the accused began to run after he noticed the head constable who was crossing on his motorcycle.
The chase continued for sometime before Riyaj was caught and placed under arrest.
Police officials stated that three mobiles, which were reportedly stolen by Riyaj, were recovered from him. Riyaj was arrested earlier twice and convicted in theft cases, officials stated.
