PORVORIM: Describing Goan farmers as hardworking, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar advised them to be open to modern and progressive ideas to boost their production.
Parulekar was speaking at ‘Krushi Melava’ organized by the Directorate of Agriculture in Pilerne-Marra Panchayat hall on Thursday.
Speaking further, Parulekar said the State government has devised various schemes for the farmers through which subsidies to the extent of 75 per cent are being offered to farmers to purchase agricultural machines, tractors, etc.
“Farmers should avail the benefits of these subsidies and increase production of crops by adopting improved methods of cultivation,” urged Parulekar.
In his welcome speech, Mapusa Zonal Agricultural Officer Dilip Paranjape explained the various schemes and subsidies available to farmers to purchase agricultural machinery, construction of wells and fencing and appealed to farmers to avail of these benefits.
Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar assured the panchayat’s full cooperation to the villagers in availing of loans from banks, purchase of agricultural equipment from the Agriculture department, etc.
