Dinar Tarcar to contest against his former supporter Babush Monserrate in St Cruz.

Industrialist Dinar Tarcar who contested on the Congress ticket against Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar with the backing of Taleigao MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate in 2007 assembly election, will contest against his former supporter.

PANJIM: Industrialist Dinar Tarcar who contested on the Congress ticket against Opposition Leader Manohar  Parrikar with the backing of  Taleigao MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate  in 2007 assembly election, will contest against his former supporter.

Tarcar resigned from the Congress Party on Wednesday afternoon, and joined MGP.

MGP President  Deepak Dhavalikar announced at a   press conference here  that Tarcar  has joined  the party,  and  they are considering  his  candidature for St Cruz constituency.  

However the final decision would be announced after the meeting of its parliamentary committee on Thursday.

“We should be able to declare our candidates by Thursday afternoon,” MGP President informed.  

MGP has swapped Tivim seat for St Cruz with its alliance partner, the BJP. 

“Through mutual understanding we have decided to exchange the seat,” Dhavalikar informed media persons here.

According to the alliance agreement MGP has been granted eight seats and it has declared candidates for Ponda, Priol, Marcaim and Quepem.

Dinar Tarcar who has stakes in mining, said he is willing to subject himself to any enquiry or willing to face any commission of enquiry. Tarcar made the statement while replying to a question on mining and that his name had figured in the draft Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report.

In October 2011, Goa Mines and Geology Department has ordered the suspension of two iron ore and bauxite mines which found mention for alleged illegality in the controversial PAC draft report.   The mines were being managed by Dinar Tarcar.

Replying to another question Tarcar, said there are other bigger issues in St Cruz and mining has no direct relevance to the constituency.
