MARGAO: Margao’s famous Dindi festivities will get underway in the commercial capital from November 10. The Dindi festival will be celebrated this year on November 15.
Chairman of Margao Dindi festival committee Damu Naik had a meeting with the district authorities on Monday to chalk out arrangements for the six-day festivities. Damu later told the media that this is the 104th year since the town played host to the Dindi festival. “Dindi is a major festival in the state. Our proposal for declaring Dindi festival as a state festival is pending with the government. But we would ensure that the festival is organised with traditional pomp and gaiety this year too,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said the meeting with the district authorities took into account the security and law and order aspects during the six-day festivities. “We have discussed the question of security arrangements, including provision for CCTVs, watch towers, security along the procession route, etc.,” he said.
District Collector, N D Agrawal later told the media that certain roads will be closed for traffic on the
day of the Dindi celebrations, adding that the authorities would publish the route chart in the media. He said the authorities will meet again.
