MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, during his visit to Hari Mandir in Margao for the famous Dindi festival, announced that the historic event is set to be designated as a State festival from next year.
Sawant explained that although the decision to grant State festival status was made last year, it was delayed due to the slow formation of the joint panel. Despite this, he assured that the Dindi festival will officially attain State festival recognition in the upcoming year. He added that he had asked Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to liaise with the Temple committee in recommending nominees for that joint panel.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, who also participated in the festival, emphasized that festivals like Margao’s Dindi serve as a vibrant display of the city’s cultural heritage and significantly contribute to boosting tourism. He stressed on festival’s significance in the State’s festive calendar, noting its enduring history and cultural importance as it marked its 114th year of celebration this year.
