PANJIM: Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has confirmed that the video journalist working with the State’s Information and Publicity Department is a foreign national and has been violating the Indian Visa Act.
ACB had arrested Melwyn Soares and Sanjay Shinde on March 8 from Margao for demanding a bribe from a businessman. Soares was working with the government of Goa on contract with the Information and Publicity Department.
ACB officials said the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) Panjim informed them that Soares is a Portuguese national and has a valid visa till May 2016. The visa is not an employment visa and thus he has violated the visa rules and Foreigners Act, ACB officials said.
ACB said that they will be writing to the local police to file a separate offence against Soares under the Foreigners Act and for violating visa terms.
