PORVORIM: Legislators Rohan Khaunte and Jayesh Salgaonkar raised the issue of scarce and dirty water supply in their respective constituencies of Porvorim and Saligao while seeking immediate solution from the government.
Khaunte, who raised the mater during the Zero Hour Mention, stated that he has sent a bottle of ‘muddy and dirty’ water to the Health Department for testing.
“The Porvorkars have been getting muddy and dirty coloured water since the last 15 days. Complaints to the PWD have been in vain. The problem increases during the rainy season. We fear it could lead to vector borne diseases,” he said on the floor of the House.
Salgaonkar stated that every time the locals question officials on dirty water, they are being told that the tanks are in process of cleaning.
The legislators, however, stated that the PWD officers such as Principal Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers have been cooperative.
Unsatisfied with PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar’s reply that the water filter at the water treatment plant at Assorna does not clear the water during heavy downpour, former PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar stated that the turbidity of water has increased.
“We will take precautions from the next monsoon season,” Pauskar stated.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant intervened assuring the House solution at the earliest.
