VASCO: In a bid to tackle any natural calamity during the monsoon, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Y B Tavde has formed a disaster management team.
The disaster management team comprises of four members, which includes a junior engineer from the technical department, a supervisor and two labourers.
Speaking to Herald, Tavde informed that the team will be present every Saturday and Sunday till August 31 and will act during any natural calamity during monsoon. He has urged the people to contact the disaster management team on Saturdays and Sundays on 0832-2512275.
“The disaster management team will attend emergency works like fallen trees, blockade of roads and gutters. The officials concerned will be available on call for any emergency on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays in addition to their normal duties and shall avail compensatory off on the respective days,” he added.
Tavde said the order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till August 31 and non-compliance and dereliction of duty will be dealt with seriously.
