BICHOLIM: The rains continued to lash Bicholim on Friday as the monsoon total now stands at 1,253 mm. The taluka received 130 mm of rain on Friday alone. All the rivers in the area have reported rise in water levels and authorities have begun to discharge water from Tillari dam.
The emergency system has been kept in place in case Chapora river reaches dangerous rise.
The Bicholim Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar and Water Resources Department officials the situation. The Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye also inspected the Sal village and gave necessary orders to officials.
The water from nullahs in Bicholim and Sanquelim are consistently pumped out with water pumps to keep the water in the river under control. The rains also have impacted the traffic while Amthane dam at Anjuna witnessed the rise in water too.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has given orders to the emergency system to keep watch on quarries in the mining belt after taking stock of the situation of river-side villages of Sal and Menkurem. So far more than 10 houses in the taluka have been damaged and CM has asked to present the report regarding the same so that immediate aid can be provided.
