Discussion on Kul-Mundkar issue draws Pernem residents together

PERNEM: A meeting was convened in the hall of Tuem village panchayat to discuss the Kul-Mundkar issue in Pernem, and witnessed massive attendance from hundreds of people from different parts of the taluka, primarily senior citizens and farmers.

During the meeting, participants expressed their belief that the government already has laws in place to address the Kul-Mundkar issue, but these laws have not been effectively implemented. They called on elected representatives and the public not to politicise the issue and instead, unite to resolve it, setting aside political differences.

Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, who chaired the meeting, emphasised the seriousness of the issue, and noted that after the Mopa airport, investors are expressing interest in property investments, which is driving the need for a balanced approach to development. Arolkar stressed the importance of protecting the interests of local residents who have been living in the area for decades. He highlighted the urgency of addressing the Kul-Mundkar issue to secure the future of the next generation, especially for tenants and mundkars who have been cultivating and safeguarding the land for many years.

The meeting was attended by former Pernem MLA Parshuram Kotkar, Tuem Sarpanch Sulaksha Naik, Mandrem Deputy Sarpanch Tara Kerkar, Zilla Panchayat member Rangnath Kalshavkar, activist Adv Prasad Shahapurkar, and others.
