An hour long panel discussion on ‘Whether healthcare privatisation can improve the public health system?’ hosted by Juino De Souza in Straight-Talk will be telecast on Sunday July 18 at 11 am and again the same night at 9 pm on HCN, Goa’s leading 24 hour news and entertainment channel.
The panelists are former minister and BJP MLA Francis D’Souza, former chairperson of Women’s Commission and President of Mapusa Block Congress Dr Pramod Salgaokar, NCP Executive Vice-President and ex-Speaker, Prof Surendra Sirsat and Lawyer & Political Activist Yatish Naik.
Among the other issues discussed are: What are the questions that will be taken up for discussion in the ensuing assembly session? Will our legislators come prepared for debates on the floor of the house or will they be unconcerned and take cat naps or talk on mobile phones?
Why is there delay in not making the newly built Mapusa district hospital operational? Who will bear the interest carrying cost and other expenditure incurred on this hospital built in 2009?
Will appointing a consultant and privatization of the hospital help in catering to the healthcare needs of the poor and marginalised? Will the aam admi afford the cost of treatment in this district hospital? If government is going to subsidize then will not the end result be socially regressive and very costly to the taxpayer? Is Public Private Partnership (PPP) turning into a Politician Private (Pay) Partnership model?
