Discussions on development, revenue dominate Velsao gram sabha

VASCO: The Velsao-Pale-Issorcim gram sabha has called for the mandatory presence of the panchayat secretary during Village Development Committee (VDC) meetings and urged the full utilisation of the market complex to generate revenue for the village panchayat.

Issues related to the market complex, sopo collection, solid waste management, and VDC meetings took centre stage during the gram sabha discussion. Former deputy sarpanch Sylvia D’Souza highlighted the absence of the panchayat secretary in the last three VDC meetings and demanded the secretary’s attendance in future sessions.

Regarding the market complex, D’Souza proposed auctioning the shops to generate revenue for the panchayat. She also sought updates on the proposed science park at Issorcim, funds allocated for developing the Velsao playground, and details of rent collected from mobile tower operators.

Sarpanch Diana Gouveia assured villagers that the material recovery facility (MRF) would be operational before the monsoon season.

Former deputy sarpanch Roquezinho D’Souza suggested that the panchayat acquire land for the development of internal roads in the village. The sarpanch emphasised that most of the discussions in the gram sabha centred on development works.
