Disgruntled bar owners approach Excise Dept seeking relief

PANJIM: Disgruntled bar owners have once again approached the Excise Department seeking relief in carrying out their business, which has been adversely affected since COVID-19 induced lockdown.

On Wednesday, a delegation of All Goa Bar and Restaurant Owners’ Association made yet another petition to the Commissioner urging permission to restart their business. The four-page memorandum also seeks reduction in excise fees and rebate in electricity bills.

“We may be allowed to operate the bars so that we can at least expect some increase in business which is dying now and which, if not given a helping hand will lead to sure death due to starvation. It is high time that government intervenes in the matter and gives helping hand to us before it is too late as we seek sanctuary with you as the last resort,” Association president Michael Carrasco said.
