PANJIM: BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh says he will not rest until the people who attacked him are arrested and dealt with according to the provisions of the law.
Wagh who told this newspaper he is utterly disappointed that the police have done nothing to track down his assailants, says he now intends to take the matter up with the BJP president Rajnath Singh.
“The fact that some 70 people had the temerity to attack me, an MLA, so publicly, shows that they had the go-ahead from someone calling the shots, and the police have obviously been told not to touch anybody,” he said.
The only person to be arrested in the case has not even been interrogated by the police, said Wagh.
“I have given them 9 names, why is it so difficult for the police to track down these people who come from small villages around Tivim?”
Wagh said though some of the assailants were wearing masks on the day he was attacked, not all of them had their faces covered, and he could easily identify them.
The St Andre MLA who has been linked to the NCP said he wasn’t planning to go anywhere at the moment. “I have won a hard fought victory. Why should I leave my seat? The party had no role to play in my win.”
Wagh argues that the Goa government which has shown such “efficiency” in the Tarun Tejpal case has not arrested the builder or contractor of Ruby Residency in the Canacona building collapse disaster, or the goons who attacked him. The obvious inference being that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is using a different yardstick in dealing with different cases for political reasons.
