VASCO: The Chicalim gram sabha on Sunday served a deadline of December 7, on mobile tower companies to dismantle their towers installed during BRICS summit in their jurisdiction, failing which the panchayat would start the process to discontinue power supply given to the mobile towers.
Hosts of other issues were discussed at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Neelima Naik and attended by Deputy Sarpanch Seby Pereira, panchas and a large number of villagers.
“While having discussion on the mobile tower installed during recently held BRICS summit, the gram sabha members opined that they don’t need mobile towers in close proximity of residential area and thus a mobile tower installed near the new panchayat ghar (in private property) should be dismantled as early as possible. A resolution, therefore, was passed to send notice to mobile tower company concerned to dismantle the tower before December 7, failing which the panchayat would start the process to disconnect power supply given to the mobile tower,” Sarpanch Neelima Naik said.
The gram Sabha members also raised serious concerns over the non-availability of full time secretary, which they said, hampers routine works of panchayat. It was therefore resolved to approach the Director of Panchayat requesting him to appoint full time secretary to Chicalim urgently.
The sarpanch also informed the gram sabha that the body has started to go cashless from January 1, 2017. “As per the directions issued by Director of Panchayat, we have decided to introduce cashless facility in the panchayat. Very soon we will implement POS machines and start accepting online payments so that it becomes hassle free for the people and in this regard we have had various meetings with banks on how this system can be implemented, on priority,” Naik informed.
The garbage issue witnessed lengthy debate. Some of the members raised serious concerns over the garbage menace in few areas in the village.
