PONDA: To ensure safety of locals, the villagers have requested the government to dismantle the two old bailey bridges at Borim, which are in dilapidated condition and demanded that a new Borim Bridge be constructed.
Panch Sunil Sawkar said the old bailey bridge on Zuari River at Borim having the old 700 mm diameter pipeline from Opa to Birla is in dilapidated condition with its rusted iron support falling each day. With the pipeline already disconnected, the bridge could collapse any moment and this could prove fatal in case it fell on fishermen moving in canoes. Sawkar requested the government to remove the pipeline and dismantle the bridge to ensure the safety of locals. He said that remains of the Portuguese-era Bailey bridge, which was once used for traffic, are crashing one by one and urged the government to dismantle it too.
Sarpanch Bhavna Naik said PWD has commenced the work to repair potholes in Borim and urged the department to repair the Bythokhol road, which has turned into a death trap for motorists.
