CORTALIM: The pontoon which was dismantled by authorities is lying along the banks of the water body since the last 10 days in CRZ area of Quelossim.
The project, which was ostensibly for a water world park, had attracted a lot of attention given the fact that there had been a lot of land filling in the area.
When contacted, Environment Minister and local MLA Alina Saldanha said, “Yes, I know the government should have taken possession of the structures dismantled since it has now become government property. I will speak to GCZMA Member Secretary Srinet Kotwale who is also the Director of Environment, in this regard.”
Asked about action on the land filling/reclamation in the area, Saldanha said these and other issues would be taken up with the authorities concerned.
Cortalim-Quelossim Talathi S Kerkar, who is attached to Mormugao Mamlatdar, said he has not received any intimation on the matter from his higher ups.
“I have already informed my superiors that we require more surveyors along with gadgets to map the encroachment since the area is vast. However, it is more than a month that no intimation has been received by me in this regard,” Kerkar said.
In fact, an official from the survey department told Herald that the department is yet to depute officials to carry out the assessment.
