MARGAO: A complaint against tree cutting for widening a road in Fatorda was dismissed by a designated court here, on Wednesday.
Welcoming the dismissal, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai alleged that the plea was a ploy by the opposition to prevent developmental works ahead of elections in 2017.
A group of people, objecting to the cutting of banyan trees along the road from Arlem circle to Ravindra Bhavan circle, had filed a complaint against the same. In their complaint, they alleged that the banyan trees there were cut without a thought of saving them.
In his reply, Vijai said, “There were several trees which were cut during the preparation and road widening for the BRICS summit. These tree cuttings also included some banyan trees and no one uttered a single word while they were being cut.”
With a dismissal of the complaint against tree cutting, Vijai said, the work of road widening would go ahead.
