PANJIM: The displaced kiosk owners outside Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, who have been on a hunger strike for the last week, slammed the government for its indifference to their protest and the long delay in fulfilling their demands.

The protestors said the government’s attitude towards them shows that the government will not be bothered if they live or die and are uninterested about their welfare or loss of livelihood.

Inancio Domnic Pereira, who has been leading the protests also criticised the local MLAs for leaving them but said they are no longer bothered about what the MLAs have to say but only focused on the government taking the action as promised to them.

On Friday, a wall in GMC’s compound was demolished and it may be recalled that the St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes had said after the wall is demolished, will the rehabilitation process start.  Pereira however said they need to see an order in writing that the breaking of the compound wall was connected to their rehabilitation and only then will they take a call to withdraw their agitation.

He also referred to the timeline the Chief Minister had given them about the rehabilitation work.
