PANJIM: The displaced kiosk owners who operate from the area outside Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim have threatened to hold protests on Monday where they will hold a peaceful dharna outside the house of St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes.
The vendors are not happy with the slow pace at which the government seems to be moving when it comes to implementing the assurances given to them regarding their rehabilitation. These promises were made to them by Fernandes, St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira, who has held meetings with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant about their plight.
While the vendors hope that the Chief Minister will make good on his promise, they will nonetheless begin their sit-down protest at the residence of the St Cruz MLA. After that, they may head to Panjim’s Azad Maidan if needed.
Incidentally, the two-day State Legislative Assembly session also begins on Monday and the vendors are hoping that their grievances are brought up at the Assembly as well.
They point out that despite multiple meetings with various authorities, there is still no clarity as to what the final plan is given that the district collector had installed new stalls recently, which was not in line with the plans that had been shown to them earlier on.
The St Cruz MLA had recently assured them that all their issues will be addressed.
