Disqualification case: No Court relief for ex-Sangolda sarpanch

PANJIM: The Panjim District and Sessions Court on Monday dismissed the civil revision application filed by former Sangolda sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar, challenging his disqualification as a panchayat member.

With the dismissal of the application, the order of disqualification against Morajkar by the Directorate of  Panchayat  Siddhi  Halarnkar continued as no relief was granted by the Court.

Following a complaint by Anand Tulaskar, the Directorate of Panchayat by an order in March this year, disqualified Morajkar for allegedly misappropriating panchayat funds amounting to Rs 16,10,926 during his tenure as the sarpanch from 2017-2022.

Morajkar had allegedly withdrawn the amount from Sangolda Village Panchayat bank account in gross violation.

The District Court observed that the order passed by the Director of  Panchayat does not show any illegality, perversity or arbitrariness.

“To conclude the impugned order is well founded on the basis of principle of natural justice, reasoning and applications of provisions of law and therefore does not warrant any interference by this court,” Justice Vijayalaxmi R Shivolkar, District Judge 1, Panjim, said.
